Summative Assessment: 

  • Students will be able to place provided documents in chronological order and justify their decision using historical thinking skills practiced throughout the unit.
  • Students will be able to choose documents from those provided in Part I and the rest of the unit to explain how they would use these documents in the process of planning a demonstration in the present day.

Warm Up

As the students enter the room, have the following posted on the board:

Create a brief timeline depicting the chronology of demonstrations on the Mall. How did one lead to another?

Allow students to review ther ideas in small groups of pairs.

New Material

This lesson is the Summative Assessment.  Material should not be nwew to students, but wll assess their ability to use what they have learned throughout the unit.

Part I:

Students will be provided a set of documents. They will be asked to place the documents in chronological order and justify their decision using historical thinking skills practiced throughout the unit.

Part II:

Students will choose documents from those provided in Part I and the rest of the unit to explain how they would use these documents in the process of planning a demonstration in the present day.

Part I:

Justify your decision by explaining your use of historical thinking skills, including sourcing, contextualization, and chronology, practiced throughout the unit.

Part II:

Choose 3 or more documents from those provided in Part I and the rest of the unit to explain how you would use these documents in the process of planning a demonstration in the present day. Explain your rational behind your choices.
